Subaru Generators – the SGX Series Portable Generators Review

Subaru Generator - SGX5000

Subaru Generator – SGX5000

The Subaru SGX series of generators are commercial generators that deliver clean electricity and have 3 models in the series, the 3500 watt generator, the 5000 watt generator and the 7500 watt generator.

Subaru is a part of Fuji Heavy Industries. It is well known for its cars and its engines all over the world. Subaru also manufactures pumps and generators which are known for their reliability, durability and performance. Subaru produces more than a million engines yearly for various applications.

The Subaru generators are equipped with Subaru engines that allow them to deliver high levels of reliable power.

If you’re in the market for a high performance generator and can afford a little higher price tag these generators are well worth considering.

Power Output and Generation

Subaru Generators use model numbers that represent the surge capacity of the generator. The rated capacity is approximately 8 to 10% less than the model number.

The SGX 3500 generator is equipped with a Subaru OHC EX 21 7 hp engine which lets it produce 3200 watts of continuous power while being able to surge up to 3500 watts.

The SGX 5000 generator is equipped with a Subaru OHC EX30 9 hp engine which lets it produce 4500 watts of continuous power while being able to surge up to 4900 watts.

The SGX 7500 generator is equipped with a Subaru EX40 OHC 14 hp engine which lets it produce 6700 watts of continuous power while being able to surge up to 7500 watts.

Probably the one differentiating feature promoted by the manufacture of these machines is the ability to run at rated load continuously. Most generators are good for a duration of less than one hour.

Fuel Capacities

The Subaru SGX 3500 generator has a fuel tank with a capacity of 4 gallons which lets it run for 8 hours at rated load.

The Subaru SGX 5000 has a fuel tank capacity of 7 gallons which lets the generator run for 9.4 hours at rated load

The Subaru SGX 7500 has a fuel tank capacity of 8 gallons which lets it run for 7 hours at rated load.

All the generators have a fuel gauge which let you know how much fuel is in the tank at all times.

Dimensions and Noise Levels

In general these Subaru Generators are on the loud side of operation. The noise level measurements provided appear to be for full load operation and put them in the typical plus 70dB range. Dimensions are comparable to slightly larger than most generating units of similar output.

The dimensions of the SGX 3500 generator are 27 x 25 x 25 inches (L x W x H), this generator produces a noise level of 72 Db at 7 meters.

The SGX 5000 generator has dimensions of 31 x 28 x 27 inches (L x W x H ) and produces a noise level of 76 Db at 7 meters when running.

The SGX 7500 generator has dimensions of 34 x 28 x 27 inches ( L x W x H ). This generator produces a noise level of 76 Db at 7 meters when running.

Features

The SGX series of Subaru generators are expensive as compared to other similar generator and can cost as much as 75% more than similar generators. One of the reasons for this is the engines of these generators are capable of handling the maximum rated load for the run time of an entire tank of fuel while most other similar generators are capable of handling the maximum rated load for short periods of time, maybe half an hour to an hour before overheating.

The SGX series of Subaru generators are commercial generators and are meant to deliver reliable power in the most demanding situations. These generators are equipped with Subaru OHC engines which mean fewer moving parts, which helps reducing the noise level at full load.

All these generator have two wheel kits which make them easily portable and the folding handles make them easy to store. All the generators are equipped with a Low oil shut down feature to protect the engine. They all come with an Hour meter which helps you to do the required maintenance at the proper time.

All these generators are equipped with Automatic Voltage Regulators which help them deliver precise voltage output at all times this lets you operate sensitive electronic equipment safely.

All these generators have tempered copper windings which lets them deliver a higher surge capacity. All the SGX series generators come with a 3 year warranty on the generator and a 5 year warranty on the engine.

The SGX 3500 and the SGX 5000 have a recoil start system to start the engine while the SGX 7500 has an electric start as well as a recoil start system to start the engine.
