Powermate 12500W Generator

Powermate 12500W Generator

Powermate Model PM0601250 is a 12,500/ 15,625 Watt Gas Powered Portable Generator With Electric Start. This model is non CARB complaint.

Powermate has been an industry leader for over 40 years. They are known for the solutions they offer in terms of portable power and portable generators. They have generators to suit all needs and purposes. These generators are built with the best components available.

All the engines for their generators are made by well known brands such as Honda, Mitsubishi, Yamaha and Subaru. The Powermate generators are covered by one of the best warranties available and they have more than 2000 service centers all over the country to help you service these generators.

The Powermate PM 0601250 generator is one of the generators that they produce and this generator is rated for 12,500 watts of continuous power, making it an ideal generator to backup the power supply in your home, to use on job sites where there is no power available to run power tools or any other place where you need portable electric power.

Power Output and Generation

The Powermate PM 0601250 generator has a continuous power output of 12,500 watts and can surge up to 15,625 watts.

This generator is equipped with a 22 hp V-Twin OHV gasoline engine from Subaru. It has a low oil shutdown protection.

The engine is setup with an idle control which will lower engine rpm from 3600 to 2000 rpm to conserve on fuel consumption when no power is being pulled. This control can be disabled with the switch on the control panel. Also the battery needs to be installed for this to work.

The unit comes with 2 quarts of oil and a 12V 34AH battery for the electric start.

Electrical Output.

Two sets (4 – 120V duplex receptacles) at 20 amps per set. (2 x 2400W = 4800W) and are also GFCI protected receptacles

One 120V L5-30A twist-lock receptacle (3600W)

One 120/240V 50 amp Receptacle (6000W & 12,000W respectively)

All receptacles can be used at the same time but total load is restricted to 12500W max. At 120V that is 104A, or effectively 100A based on the individual limits per plug. I wasn’t able to get a wiring diagram to verify the data provided in the manual, but it seems reasonable to expect adequate power all around.

Based on the output ability this setup is going to give you every thng you need. However, since the L5 twist lock is only wired to 120V it may not be the right setup for connecting to your house for power. You will need to be sure to use a 50 amp inlet box or go with an adapter with breaker to limit to a L14-30 amp depending on your setup. See accessories below for suggestions.

Powermate 12500W Control Panel

The display panel of the Powermate PM 0601250 contains the outputs and their circuit breakers on the front face of the generator.

When you face the control panel you will see that to the extreme left it has an idle control switch which controls the RPM of the engine when there is no load connected. This helps to conserve fuel as well as the engine as it runs at lower RPM when there is no load.

Moving right is the main circuit breaker which controls all the outlets. Below this you have the Hour meter which shows you the number of hours that your generator has been running.

Moving to the receptacles on the right is the 120/240V 50 amp heavy duty receptacle. Then the 120V L5-30 twist lock receptacle and on to the right of this receptacle you will find 3 circuit breakers.

Accessories

There are a few accessories that you could get to go with your generator. Finding a dust cover for this generator is a bit difficult. Besure you check dimensions on the covers. This genie is a few inches longer than most and the covers come up a bit short in the overall length.

However, we found a nice tent set up that will protect it from the elements when in use. Check out this tent:
