Honda EU3000is

Honda EU3000is Portable Generator 2800W

Honda is well known for its automobiles and motorcycles and this company also manufactures engines, power generators as well as lawn equipment.

The Honda-EU3000iS-Inverter-Generator is one of the generators from their line of generators. All Honda generators use Honda engines which are well known for their efficiency and reliability, they are not only well made but they are very quite compared to other engines in their class.

The Honda generators are built with the high quality that the Honda products are known. These generators are capable of being used as backup power source at home for emergencies as well as having their use for camping, using them in RVs or using them wherever there is a need for electricity where it is not available.

The Honda UE-3000is comes with an electric start and is CARB compliant. Although you’ll see 2600 watts for output in some listings it is rated at 2800 watts.

Power Output and Generation

The Honda-EU3000iS-Inverter-Generator uses a 4-cyle, 196cc Honda engine. It can put out 2,800 watts of continuous power and it can surge up to 3,000 watts.

That’s only a 200W surge at full power, but otherwise with lower load should provide plenty of margin. Engine oil is typical SAE10W-30 with a API service category of SJ or equal.

With nearly 3 1/2 gallon fuel tank and in its Eco-Throttle™ mode, it can run from 7.2 to 20 hours on a single tank depending on the load.

Honda indicates that operation at maximum power be limited to 30 minutes.

Output is only 120V. Rated at 23.4 amps it has 2800 Watts of continuous power. The L5-30 has the capacity for 30 amps but the unit will be limited by the 23.4 amps available.

For parallel operation you can have up to 6000kVA with a rated power of 5.6 kW.

For 12V DC it has a 144W capacity. The Eco-Throttle™ mode will restrict the unit to only 4 amps of output or 48W.

Eco-Throttle System™

This system allows for engine speed to be reduced when loads are lower. It is like a smart throttle which helps generate only the power needed when it is needed. This is a great feature for increasing efficient use of power and extending the life of the unit.

Fuel Type and Noise Levels:

The Honda-EU3000iS-Inverter-Generator runs on unleaded gasoline. It has a fuel tank capacity of 3.4 gallons and can run for up to 20 hours at 25% load (650 W). The unit does come with a fuel gauge for easily determining quantity of fuel left.

This generator is very quite giving out only between 49 dB at 1/4 load and 58dB at rated load for noise level. This is well below the normal upper 60’s and lower 70’s dB range of most generators in this size range.

Dimensions and Weight

The dimensions of the Honda-EU3000iS-Inverter-Generator are 22.4 x 18.9 x 25.8 inches (H xWx D) and the generator weighs in at 134 lbs. It is compact for its size.

With gas you can add an additional 20 lbs. At 150 lbs you’ll want to use a couple of strong folks for lifting it. Although this model doesn’t come with a wheel kit you can purchase one for easier maneuverability.

Typical Uses and Needs

The Honda-EU3000iS-Inverter-Generator uses micro chip technology to deliver clean electricity much like available from the utility grid. This lets you run sensitive computer controlled equipment without any trouble.

With it being able to deliver 2,800 watts of continuous power and surge up to 3,000 watts this generator can be used as a backup for times of emergencies at home, letting you run essential equipment as well as letting you use sensitive equipment without any worries. With 3,000 watts of surge out put it can be used for most RVs to run your AC as well as other equipment.

It makes an ideal companion to have while camping or in your cabin to run lights as well as a small heater. In fact this generator can be used anywhere in the out doors where you need electricity even at a job site to run power tools.

Correction: You list one outlet at L14-30R, which is clearly not. Peace.

    • PowerupGen says:

That was embarrassing, Yes Joe it is a L5-30R not the L14, corrections made. Sometimes you juxtapose what’s so common in your mind rather than what you know you should have said. Thanks for the catch.

  3. Sonja says:

what would make my Honda EU3000is to not put out as much volts as before, having trouble running my equipment, never had this problem before..

    • PowerupGen says:

Voltage drop can be affected by a few things. If the voltage is dropping at the generator then the automated voltage control module may be malfunctioning. There could also be some solid state components in the inverter that are malfunctioning. You would need to take the unit to a dealer or service center to have them test it.

If the voltage drop occurs at the end of a long run of extension cord then you may need to consider if your cord is rated properly for the length used. Two short cords put together for a given rating can see more than 5% drop in voltage due to the wire size. Length and size of wire can have a significant effect. Read more in the learning center on voltage and wire size post for further information.

The power output itself (watts) may be effected by the engine performance and can be attributed to elevation changes, poor gasoline or degraded gasoline. If fuel was left in the unit it can also gum up and restrict flow of fuel. Engine maintenance of spark plug is required at times to ensure proper engine performance.

There are any number of problems that can effect it and reviewing operation in detail with a service center could help narrow down your possible issues.
